DOUS Fetes Foundation Day

DMMMSU-OUS just turned 16 last October 20, 2012. The celebration started on the wee hours of October 19, 2012 with a Fun Run participated by and in coordination with different government agencies like Philippine National Police Regional Office 19(PRO1), Philippine Navy/Coastguard, Bureau of Fire, Philippine National Red Cross, DOH RO1, BJMP, ARESCOM Northern Luzon and other health enthusiasts. It started at the Philippine Coast Guard compound at Poro Point, CSF and ended at the DOUS ground. Before the fun run started, a “hataw sayaw” lead by the DOH PRO1 staff was conducted serving as a limbering exercise for the participants.

In the morning of the 2nd day, October 20, 2012, the celebration continued with Fun Games for young and adults as an opener. It was followed by more fun and frolics and in between, a videoke singing contest was held. Simultaneously, a medical mission was conducted at the DOUS Multi-purpose Hall. Free medical consultations and medicines were given mostly to the residents of barangarys Ilocanos Sur and Ilocanos Norte, both of the City of San Fernando, by volunteer doctors and nurses of the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center.

After a brief lunch break, the festivities continued with the opening of the Search for Mr. and Ms. DOUS 2012. In between were intermissions from DOUS students and faculty and staff. Also, DOUS Got Talent 2012 was conducted in between to maximize the time used in the program. The “piso mula sa puso” raffle draw was also conducted while waiting for the start of some numbers included in the program. Most notable among the intermission and surely the most applauded is the dance number of the DOUS faculty and staff graciously swaying to the beat of “Pandanggo Wasiwas”, a famous Filipino cultural dance. The program was co-emceed by Mr. Buenaventura Caluscosin and Ms. Ces Myra Mabalot.

Before the decision of the panel of judges for the winners of both the “Search for Mr and Ms DOUS 2012” and “DOUS Got Talent 2012” was announced, the inauguration and blessing  ceremonies of the DOUS Alumni Association building was conducted with Rev. Conrado P. Lumahan, Senior Pastor of All the Gospel Church officiating. The momentous affair was well attended by well-known leaders of the province led by Hon. Manuel C. Ortega, provincial governor, Hon. Victor F. Ortega, Congressman of the 1st District of La Union, Hon. Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, DOUS Alumni Association president assisted by other notable DOUS alumni like Hon. Servillano C. Flores, newly appointed Games and Amusement Board Commissioner, Hon. Ramon F. Laudencia, Hon. Jessie R. Miranda, both CSF councillors, Dr. Danilo A. Concepcion, Prof. Arlyce Pimentel, and other equally notable officers and members of the DOUS Alumni Association. The presence of DMMMSU officials led by Atty. Benjamin P. Sapitula, University President, and his ever supportive wife, Mrs. Gena B. Sapitula gave additional inspiration and joy to the affair.

The festivities culminated with the DOUS faculty and staff and other supporters exhausted but were fully relieved and overjoyed for a job well done.
